KORA Organics: My Honest Review

Miranda Kerr and I are best friends. Well, I’ve started using KORA Organics – her line of skincare – so that’s like the same thing, right? #agirlcandream...

KORA’s skincare range was launched in 2009 and now includes over 20 face and body products including cleansers, toners, moisturisers, oils, masks and scrubs. All products are certified organic, something Miranda is passionate about, and don't include common nasties like sulphates, parabens, fragrances, silicones, glycols or synthetic colours.

Her products do include noni juice, a powerful antioxidant with more than 170 vitamins and ninerals that she’s included in her daily diet and skincare regime since she was 12, and rosehip oil, something that Miranda’s mother Theresa (KORA’s former general manager for many years) has said they purchase at $22,000 per kilo (or $10,000 a pound). (It must be be pretty magical!)

The range is not tested on animals and is cruelty free, and all products are free of any animal components and by-products. (This is really important to me.) So they're all classified vegan (with the exception of the lip balm, which contains beeswax), and also the (very pretty) packaging is environmentally friendly.

Miranda has spoken publically about her passion for wellness forever, and I think KORA embodies her healthy living philosophy wonderfully.

The products I tried were part of the 'three-step system' for oil/combination skin:

• Foaming Cleanser, 90ml ($44.95)
• Energising Citrus Mist, 65ml ($39.95)
• Purifying Day and Night Cream, 50ml ($59.95)

Foaming Cleanser

The claim: “The Aloe Vera, Green Tea and Sandalwood protect the skin from free radical damage while leaving the skin feeling fresh, invigorated and clean.”
What I thought: The product felt... well, clean is the most appropriate word. Very smooth. Almost like juice? (Must be that noni juice!) I don't think it actually ‘foamed’ like the name implied it would, it just glided on. Because of the lack of foaming I was worried it wouldn’t work very well, but it did. It took off all my makeup and my face felt really fresh afterwards. The only downside I noticed was that the product is quite runny, so when I opened the cap and squeezed the tube tons of it came out – much more than I needed, so there was a bit of waste. Oops. Just something to keep in mind if you try it yourself. Overall, a great product.

Energising Citrus Mist

The claim: “A refreshing, balancing spritz. Bergamot, Orange and Mandarin are combined with Aloe Vera, Sandalwood and Noni Extract to maintain skin freshness and suppleness. Revitalise your senses with this incredibly uplifting mist.”
What I thought: I hadn't used a toner that was a spray mist instead of a cream, but I'm glad I did - I loved this product. It felt so fresh and light. You can spray it directly onto your face, but I did three sprays onto my fingertips then rubbed it on my face. But my favourite part of this was the smell. I hadn't used a product with bergamot in it before so I was curious about that, but it was gorgeous. The citrus scent was so uplifting. The only thing I didn't like was the cap - it didn't click back on easily, I had to wiggle it around a bit. But that aside, the product was beautiful.

Purifying Day and Night Cream
The claim: “A light-weight daily moisturiser blended with natural and organically grown plant extracts of Grapefruit, Mandarin and Green Tea that help to control excess oil while providing the skin with optimum hydration. Vitamins A, C and E are combined with botanical extracts of organic Licorice and Noni for additional antioxidant protection.”
What I thought: Although it's called a day and night cream, I only used it for the day as I use an individual rosehip oil at night. I was initially concerned about how much of the product I would go through - it's nearly half the size of the cleanser (50ml vs. 90ml) but was more expensive - but I needn't have worried. A little bit went a long way – I only need to use a pea-sized amount. It wasn't greasy at all. It doesn't have any SPF in it, but I like that because I use my own sunscreen underneath my products. My makeup sat on top of it really well.

Overall summary: I was incredibly happy with the KORA Organics products I tried and would definitely recommend them. They smelled beautiful and felt great on my skin - light and fresh are the two words that keep coming to kind. And knowing their ingredients are certified organic and free from animal testing/products important to me. They cost more than I would have previously spent on skincare but given their quality, I think they're worth it!
